Abandoned petals

I thought: Empty

when I saw the red petals
so abruptly
abandon the stem of tulip
you picked
off the side of the highway

They fell simultaneously
like a curtain,
a magic trick,
the unveiling of
a passionate belly dancer’s red veil.

Like you looked when you
let your towel
fall to the floor
at the sight of me
lying looking
with that face
I give when I feel ignored.

Thanks 3WW for the prompt: Empty, Highway, Ignored

I enjoyed this. It told quite the story! Hopefully you don't have to use the ignored look too often.

Welcome to 3WW :)

Wonderful, I love the intro. with
the tulips, the analogy and onto
the relationship.

I read this several times over several days and it didn't slam into me until I read it from the end to the beginning and then back.

Sometimes things fall all at once, unexpectedly, don't they? And sometimes that look means they're about to, and other times it means...they already have.
